March 2010

March 2010

Well over a year ago I purchased some cute mini top hats. With no clue what to do with them I put them into my box of jewellery magic tricks and waited for inspiration. Then Tim Burton came to my rescue; Alice in Wonderland is back bigger, crazier and more vibrant than ever. When I saw the trailer my first thoughts literally were “I’m late, I’m late, I’m late”. I’ve had so much fun designing my new collection and can’t wait to show you all. So although other designers have brought out some fantastic ‘Alice’ inspired items, best things come to those who wait and I will be fashionably late.

February 2010

You’d have to be blind not to notice that floral prints are big this Spring/Summer. From cute ditsey print to bold blooms we’ve all gone floral mad. Dolce & Gabanna, Marc Jacobs and Christian Dior all hit the right note with gorgeous flowers. For those of us that are not brave enough to go head to toe in tulips or daffodils we can always accessories. Bourgeois Bee have brought out the perfect accessories so its customers can keep their finger on the pulse of this seasons trends.

It may be Spring but there is still a chill in the air. Wrap up warm with a scarf and attach one of our Cerise or Turquoise ‘Bloom’ broaches to brighten up any outfit.

Our La petite fleur earrings have become an overnight success, with a waiting list of customers.
Get them whilst you can ladies.

Indigo

October 2009

This winter along with a great coat and a pair of Uggs to keep out the winter chill, the key colour for autumn/winter is Indigo. From Elie Saab too Stella McCartney they all brought vibrancy to the catwalk to brighten up the dull winter months. Whether it be Tartan, Shoulder pads, Satin or Sequins they all shone Indigo.

With the party season fast approaching we’ve designed these eye catching Gold and Indigo earrings to set you apart from the crowd.
Indigo Price: £12.00

As Featured in Elle Magazine

August 2009

Firstly, thank you to Elle Magazine for featuring the website in their August 2009 Edition, and Phillipa for her amazing design. This helped to introduce the Bourgeois Bee brand to international customers in America and Europe.

As a new company the launch of the website saw us trying to find our fashion feet, so too speak. Testing the water with both clothing and jewellery. After building a loyal customer base and feedback from industry insiders, we decided that our real strength and passion lay in jewellery design. So with the New Year approaching we’ve focused our design efforts on creating some inspirational jewellery pieces.

Drawing influences from Japanese street culture, edgy punk style with our ‘Icarus’ earrings and matching necklace, and a touch of classic stand out party pieces like ‘Paparazzi’ we’re definitely excited about launching the new collection. Watch this space.

Philippa Tatt – Shouldbepenelope

June 2009

Philippa Tatt – Shouldbepenelope
I got into fashion and designing because I always had ideas of clothes/bags/jewellery/accessories that I wanted to wear but couldn't find them on the high street so I just made them myself. I love people who have an individual sense of style and I wanted to make accessories that they could wear. I did a month’s work experience for ‘Lady Luck Rules OK’ and this really got me into jewellery making.

When I create my jewellery I don't really plan a collection as such, but I have ideas for the type of jewellery I want to make. For example my most recent items are the Russian Doll necklaces and earrings. I knew I wanted to incorporate the Russian Doll motif, it's such a kitsch/novelty item and I've seen lots of fabric with this folky theme recently. I tend to make jewellery that I would wear because I love anything individual and quirky.

The charms I use are mainly vintage as I just love the whole vintage look right now.
Also, a great look a lot of people seem to like is layering up loads of different length/size necklaces. It doesn't matter how plain your outfit is, if you got layers of textures around your neck it makes things more exciting.

My advice to people starting out would be to be determined and don't give up. It's hard at first trying to get noticed, my best advice would be use high quality designs and products, present you designs beautifully, look after your customers and try and get images of your work in as many places as you can (bourgeoisbee/facebook/myspace/fashionspace/give out leaflets/put posters up etc)
